Full Arch Series: 3 Keys to Implant Dentistry
Dentists, surgeons and labs need to work together when creating a full arch on implants case to guarantee the best possible outcome for their patient. There are 3 keys to success in implant dentistry that the team must know about…
First, implant dentistry is a restorative procedure, it is therefore the final restoration that will guide every other step! First, we need to have all the information we need before we get started; CT scan files, .stl files or preop models and pictures. Then, we have to be able to determine and create, virtually and physically, the final outcome with the dentist, the surgeon, the lab and the patient being on the same page regarding expectations for both aesthetics and function and longevity.
Once we have determined what can be done esthetically considering the expectation and the initial information, we need to assess the patient’s biology. It is very important as it will guide the procedure. The team needs to consider the biotype, the bone, and the occlusion. These elements will play an important role in the determination of implant positioning, tissue management and material choice.
Lastly, we need a proper surgical guide created from the final restoration outcome, because appropriate placement of implants is absolutely key. If the case planning is the architect’s plan of the new house, the execution of the implant placement is like the foundation of the house.
