Is It Time To Switch Dental Labs?
Don’t wait for your big cases to come before switching for a higher end dental lab.
A high end dental lab has the best ceramists on their team to give you the results you need to satisfy your high end clientele. Some dentists think they don’t need to create a long term relationship with a high end lab because they want to use a cheaper lab for their everyday, more regular cases and they will deal with a high end lab only when they have a “good” or a “big” case.
Guess what happens when the “big” case comes? They are not prepared. They don’t know the lab’s protocols, they are not used to working with them, they are not including the lab in the treatment planning and crucial steps are skipped. It just doesn’t flow as expected and it becomes a very stressful situation for everyone.
Start the relationship with that high end lab TODAY. Send them your every day cases on a regular basis and create that relationship from NOW. You will be used to the lab, their protocols, their way of working and when those big cases come, you will be ready.
What about the price difference you may ask? Ask yourself what is worth more: your valuable billable chair time or saving a few dollars on a crown? When you send to an average lab, you will get an average crown. This means probably spending some time (maybe too much time) in the chair to adjust your margins, your contacts and occlusion. Maybe you will have to have a remake of your average crown, resulting in a waste of your time, your staff’s time as well as a disappointed patient. A high end lab will give you the predictable results you need to make your life easier, to save A LOT of chair time and have an overall stress free experience with your patient.
And guess what, those big cases don’t come by coincidence. If you give amazing work and provide a pleasant experience to your patients even on single molar crowns, they will talk to their friends, family, neighbors and colleagues and you might have your big cases that are so fun to work with sooner than expected.
